Short Stay Services Benefit Patients and Families

Heather Hill has expanded its short stay services to include day and overnight respite care for persons with Alzheimer's disease as well as short-term overnight care in the rehabilitation hospital and nursing home.

For families who care for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease at home, Heather Hill's Corinne Dolan Center offers both day and short-term overnight care.

Short term overnight care is available from 1-30 days in Heather Hill's Rehabilitation Hospital and Nursing Home.

The Dolan Center's "Dayaway" program is available 12 hours a day, seven days a week. This important option includes meals, planned daily activities and socialization for the participant. Once a family is accepted into the "Dayaway" program, it can be used at a family's convenience and at a moment's notice. Short-term overnight care, from three days to three weeks, is offered because caregivers need a break, too!

Short-term overnight care within Heather Hill's nursing home and rehabilitation hospital is a win/win situation for both patients and their families. The program is available for a minimum of one day to a maximum of thirty days and is subject to bed availability.

Day and short-term overnight residents at the Corinne Dolan Alzheimer Center enjoy music and dance/movement therapy.

Overnight respite care is especially beneficial for families whose emotional and time resources are strained by caring for an aging relative. "Many families use our overnight respite program on a regular basis to regain energy and a sense of privacy," she said.

Others who benefit from the program include those who need supervision due to mental or physical limitations or individuals whose lives have changed due to recent illness or hospitalization.

"My mom was a patient at Heather Hill following orthopedic surgery." one family member recalled. "Unfortunately, I was scheduled to be out of town the week of her discharge. I was able to have her remain at Heather Hill for four days on a respite basis. It worked out well for everyone!"
