University Hospitals Outpatient Rehabilitation and Aquatic Center

The University Hospitals Outpatient Rehabilitation and Aquatic Center offers convenient, state-of-the-art physical, occupational, aquatic and speech therapy. 

The therapy pool allows barrier-free entry by raising and lowering the pool floor to accommodate wheelchairs or walkers.  Features include an underwater treadmill and water jets to create resistance for strength training.  Underwater cameras are connected to monitors, computers and videotape equipment to track the patient’s progress. 

 

Therapy programs are designed for both children and adults with:

·            Orthopedic Conditions

·         Neurological conditions including brain injury and stroke

·            Sports injuries

·         Functional decline

·            Cardiopulmonary conditions

·         Spinal Cord Injury

·            Amputation

·         Work-related injuries

·            Arthritis or other chronic pain

·         Speech and hearing impairments

·            Swallowing dysfunction

·         Falls

Physical Therapy

Therapists work to relieve pain, restore function and improve muscle function, balance coordination and posture through:

·            Aquatic Therapy

·            Manual Therapy including myofascial release, cross friction and soft tissue massage

 ·            Resistive free weights and aerobic equipment
 ·            Functional skills training including ambulation, transfers and stairs

Occupational Therapy

Patients regain their ability to participate in work or community activities through:

·          Cognitive retraining

·         Aquatic Therapy

·          Wheelchair fitting and training

·         Neuromuscular re-education

·          Return to work assistance  

·         Hand therapy and splinting

·          Activities of daily living retraining

·         Home evaluation and modification

·          Incontinence Assessment and treatment – Bladder, Bowel, Urge Frequency and Biofeedback

 Speech Therapy

Speech therapists help to improve strength, sensation and movement of body parts required to speak and swallow.  They also provide assistance in helping patients organize thoughts, remember things, read, write and speak more effectively through:

·          Cognitive retraining

·         Aphasia and dysarthria therapy

·          Voice retraining

·         Fluency therapy

The University Hospitals Outpatient Rehabilitation and Aquatic Center is located at 12460 Bass Lake Road, at the intersection of Bass Lake and Mayfield Roads.  All patients are welcome.  Ask your physician for a referral or call us directly at 440-285-5979.
